Here's a Wikipedia description of pantomimes:Pantomime (informally panto), is a type of musical comedy stage production, designed for family entertainment. It was developed in England and is generally performed during the Christmas and New Year season. Modern pantomime includes songs, slapstick comedy and dancing, employs gender-crossing actors, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well-known fairy tale.[1] It is a participatory form of theatre, in which the audience is expected to sing along with certain parts of the music and shout out phrases to the performers.
I think Brad and I enjoyed it more than the kids! It was very funny and very audience involved. Pretty much all the songs were pop songs, like "happy" and "stay with me." Linda gray from Dallas played the fairy godmother, and the two stepsisters were played by men in very outrageous costumes and halfway through the show, Alison said " those are really boys." It is a true Britain Christmas tradition and it kept the kids attention pretty much the whole time.
We let the girls stay up until midnight and we watched the local NYE show with Queen and Adam Lambert followed by fireworks over the Thames River as Big Ben bonged midnight. Pretty amazing!!
2015 is going to be a great year of adventure for our family and learning how to adjust to city living!
